Abaxoth was a powerful lich who was active during the early years of the Avylonian Empire. Though little is known about him, many practitioners of occult magic regard him as one of the most powerful necromancers to ever exist.
History[]
Those who make a study of pre-Avylon history often speculate that Abaxoth was actually an Ocrisian lord, and there are some who believe he may have been the very first to develop the ritual of lichdom. While details are vague, he is recorded as a great enemy of the Avylonian empire who lead a gargantuan army of undead and other monsters against the young civilization, and was beaten back by Avylon's armies of giants, elves, dwarves, and humans. Abaxoth was most noted for the incredible difficulty his enemies had killing him; as lichdom was as yet unheard of during the time, no one knew that his phylactery needed to be destroyed, and it seemed as though he continued to come back from destruction endlessly. His phylactery and body were eventually destroyed, and his remains were taken by his most loyal followers to the Plane of Death, where they were sealed within a great tomb along with many of the necromancer's treasured artifacts of wealth and magical power. It is believed that Abaxoth hoarded a massive library of texts, ranging from tomes of the occult to books of history and science.
The Tomb of Abaxoth[]
The Great Tomb of Abaxoth is the structure within which the great lich's remains were interred following his final defeat. Countless warlocks and necromancers have sought the tomb, but the only one who was successful was Abhorash, at the time a young magician and occult practitioner, who discovered the ancient lich Abaxoth, who survived his defeat centuries before, within. The ancient lich took Todd on as an apprentice, dubbing him "Abhorash."
