Craftsmen and Chimeras Wiki

Conductive magic (sometimes called red magic or metalmancy) is by far the most prevalent form of magic, owing to its ease of use. This school of magic uses metals to use the ambient magical energies, as metals are one of the best known conductors of magical energies. It is most often used by warriors and battlemages, whose martial abilities usually outshine their arcane skills.

Strengths and weaknesses[]

Conductive magic's major flaw is that any one metal is able to only conduct and channel one element of magic (e.g. copper can only channel lightning; iron can only channel light; etc.). This makes its users prone to the possession of specialized and stereotyped spell repertoires rather than a broader, more utilitarian range of spells. This is because generally a single weapon or item is chosen by a conductive magician, who then chooses a small few spells in order to hone his familiarity with the spells.

One of the greatest strengths of this school is its potential for experimentation. Alloyed metals can often generate far more powerful spells. Gold is one of the common metals to use in alloys, as it works as an amplifier that can drastically increase a metal's energy output.

In the Polis Academia[]

The Polis Academia is generally reserved about conductive magic and prefers to defer magicians who practice it to town guards rather than to teach them. Such magicians are generally considered dangerous, as very few of them enter the Polis Academia with pure intentions: the prospect of shooting fire from one's weapon draws in a far less responsible and academic-minded crowd than the Academia would like.
