- Normal looking humans, plentiful and unexceptional, are the de facto standard against which other races are measured.
Humans have had a hard time of it in recent history. Once, they owned the sprawling Avylonian Empire which encompassed most of central Panoulis, but the Plague brought their mighty civilization to its knees. The Plague, its true nature now forgotten, caused many of the empire's noble houses to seclude themselves in their fortress-like keeps. As the leaders of this lost civilization fell from power, the noble families eventually opened their gates and brought the knowledge and leadership the weakened populace required. Over time they formed dozens of smaller kingdom states, known now as the Avylonian Kingdoms, in the regions surrounding their holds.
Humanity is, in this age, known for its fractured and warring state. Many kingdoms share borders throughout the various climes and terrains of Avylon, a region known for its many mountains and forests which is what allows so many factions to operate in relatively close proximity to each other. Avylon is huge, and currently it is a place of endless turmoil and constant change due to the many kingdom states which vie for power. Humanity is a diverse race, with many different cultures. The empire had conquered many ethnicities during its time, and when it fell many of these cultures managed to regain their former identities while still retaining many of the traits of the grand civilization they had once been assimilated into.
Humans are, above all, adaptable and diverse. It is difficult to categorize their skillsets and strengths, since people in one valley can be drastically different from a neighboring one. They are traders, soldiers, diplomats, and all other manner of things when they need to be. Despite lacking any notable advantages in nature, they once managed to forge an empire which spread through much of the known world, and while it is now lost and their species is fractured and compromised they are still a powerful force not to be taken lightly.
