Magical constructs are creatures, usually composed entirely of inorganic material (such as metals, stone, or earth), who are indefinitely animated by magical energy. Magical constructs vary widely in size, sentience, and power. Magical constructs range in complexity from simple constructs such as totems to sentient constructs such as Elementals and Soulbound objects.

Types of magical constructs[]

  • Animated weapons and armor can be created by conductive, occult, or divine magic.
  • Elementals are created by conductive magic.
  • Golems can be created by divine or clerical magic. Golems incorporating large amounts of organic material can also be created by occult magic.
  • Soulbound are created by occult magic.
  • Totems are created by divine magic.

Differences between magical constructs and the undead[]

Though some novice students of magic may lump magical constructs in with the undead, the two bear more differences than similarities. An undead creature must be created with occult magic from the remains of a previously living creature and is vulnerable to Light and Life magic, while a magical construct can be created with other types of magic, is almost always created from inorganic material, and is vulnerable to Void magic.
