Desert origin: You can survive longer than most races without food and water or in hot environments. |
Orcs are a Humanoid race that lives predominately in the Burning Desert and parts of the Plane of Fire. It is suspected that Orcs are a type of Humanoid chimera. Due to their cultural and physiological similarities to Minotaurs, some people consider the two races to be one and the same.
Physiology[]
Orcs are larger than all but the biggest Humans, but smaller than most Minotaurs. Their strength and endurance have been noted, although they are somewhat less intelligent than most Humanoid races. Notably, unlike Minotaurs, Orcs have perfectly Humanoid hands and feet and are thus more dextrous.
Orc skin can range from a light tan to an almost black color. Some Orcs may also have skin that is closer to a green or red color. Orcs have pointed ears and teeth that come to points and are often fairly large. In particular, their lower canines are quite large and are often easily visible even while the mouth is closed. Many Humans consider these teeth to give Orcs an aggressive or even frightening appearance, making it difficult for Orcs to live normal lives in predominately Human societies.
Culture[]
Orcs in the Burning Desert speak a dialect of Common that has a simpler sentence structure and a far lower variety of words. Many longer words from Common are replaced by compounds of simpler words.
Orcish society is often described by Humans as "brutish," "barbaric," and "warlike." Almost all Orcs, even females, receive a significant amount of combat training by the time they have reached adulthood. They are naturally stubborn and prone to anger, which leads to frequent, violent squabbles between different tribes of Orcs or between Orcs and Minotaurs or even travelers passing through the Burning Desert.
Many Orcs practice simplistic, shamanistic religions that focus on the worship of fire, volcanos, or the sun. Some tribes also worship a god of blood and slaughter, and such tribes are infamous for cannibalizing their dead or the Humans and Minotaurs they slay in combat. However, missionaries have succeeded in converting some Orc tribes to the old religion, cults such as the Cult of Aciel, and even Demiurgism.
