The Plane of Death is an elemental plane bordering Panoulis in the southeast. The Ironwood forms the border between Panoulis and the plane.
Geography[]
The plane has geography similar to that of Panoulis, with many forests and mountains. Its forests are generally filled with dead or diseased trees, and mountains are often excessively rocky and treacherous. There are few large plains, as most open areas are large valleys cutting through the mountain ranges that snake through the Plane. Water is often normal, though either filled with bodies and thus contaminated or filled with angry spirits. There is only one large ocean, the Sea of Erebus, which covers much of the western edge of the plane. There are several large lakes interspersed throughout the Plane, along with massive corpse fields which can sometimes stretch farther than the eye can see even from high elevation.
Weather[]
The weather is often surprisingly mild in the Plane of Death, even subdued, with the skies always being overcast and depressingly soft rainfall being common. There are never any intense storms, the atmosphere of the Plane being fairly somber overall. The only extreme form of weather seen in the Death Plane are soul storms, which consist of hundreds or thousands of angry spirits moving from place to place. Those caught in these storms will often find themselves driven insane, or even end up joining the tide of ghosts.
Residents and civilization[]
The Plane of Death has a rather large population, consisting mostly of undead who entered from Panoulis. Towns often consist of more sane variants of undead who form isolated communities, though most cities remain abandoned and crumbling. Ghosts and spirits are not insubstantial as they are in Panoulis, and are visible to everyone as wandering shades. Besides these, direkin and necromancers often claim territory within the plane along with creatures such as death elementals and charcoal dragons. Powerful liches and older dragons claim vast stretches of territory and rule over them as kings.
