History[]
Formation[]
The Polis is one of the few remaining institutions of the Avylonian Empire, which created it during its initial rise to power. As a result, the Polis tends to be more respected by those kingdoms closer to the old heart of the empire and those who derive their legitimacy from old lineages.
The Plague[]
During and after the Plague, the Polis blamed the Plague on occult magic and banned it completely from its areas of study. It has since done everything in its power to persecute its practitioners. The Polis has often been criticized for its stubbornness regarding occult magic. It has been known to push for execution for cases even of mere curiosity regarding the school.
Postpestilintia[]
In the postpestilintia period, the Polis has expanded its academic mission and has begun a transition to make its scope of study nearly universal. Its schools of cartography and taxonomy are famous throughout the planes, and their maps and bestiaries have become the de facto standard.
Focus[]
At its heart, the Polis Academia is an institution of academics. As a result, it has tended to have more respect for the discipline of clerical magic and has only paid secondary attention to drudic, conductive, and divine magic. Since the outbreak of the Plague, the Academia has unequivocally banned the practice or study of occult magic.
