Dark vision: You can see perfectly in the dark.

The shadowfolk are a humanoid race who originated in the Plane of Shadow but later colonized The Wastes to form the Antrissan Empire.

Appearance and physiology[]

Shadowfolk may have a variety of complexions, ranging from an almost solid black to a light grey, and their skin often possesses a blue tinge. All pure-blooded Shadowfolk possess black hair, which is almost always straight. They may possess eye colors including black, yellow, orange, and red.

They also have salamandrine tails protruding at the base of the spine, usually measuring a foot and often more. They have a reputation for being exceptionally cunning and capable of extensive shapeshifting, though their shapeshifting is unable to conceal their tails and cannot significantly alter their height.

Shadowfolk are generally taller than Humans, but with a slimmer, more wiry build. Their grace and intelligence are well known.

History[]

The Shadowfolk originated in the Plane of Shadow, where they were content to linger for a time. Their civilization was conquered by the Ocrisian Empire, which introduced the Shadowfolk to occult magic. They took a great liking to occult magic, and their lands became a hotspot for occultists of all races. Following the disintegration of the Ocrisian Empire, the Shadowfolk expelled other races from their lands and declared the Antrissan Empire, named for the Ocrisian city Antriss. The nascent empire promptly colonized much of the eastern half of the Plane of Shadow and The Wastes in Panoulis, where they built their capital, Tol.

Culture[]

Shadowfolk are generally quiet and subdued by nature, especially when they are surrounded by people of other races. Most other races fear and even hate the Shadowfolk, for the race has earned itself a reputation for its cunning, ruthlessness, and disregard for order.

Shadowfolk magicians almost always practice occult magic, though some practice conductive magic or even divine magic. The antagonistic relationship between the Atrum Academia and the Polis Academia has resulted in a widespread disdain for clerical magic.
