The Ironwood is the name of both the region of Panoulis bordering the Plane of Light and Death as well as the actual forest that covers most of the region. It was a lawless place filled with cultists and renegades until the year 80 ap, when a baron took control of the local bandits and outcasts and declared himself the ruler of the region.
History[]
The Ironwood was not as heavily touched by the Great Plague as the rest of Avylon, due to its smaller populace at the time and isolation within miles of forest. Before the time of Avylon it was most prominently known to house many of the tribals who migrated south from the Meeodan forest, though they were eventually pushed north out of the Ironwood by the humans who began to colonize the area. After the onset of the Plague and the following years when the rest of Avylon was in chaos, the Ironwood began to see a greater onset of outcasts and renegades fleeing from Avylon. The thickly forested region made it difficult to unify the area, and the constant conflict gave no great sense of stability. It was a lawless place, and besides the gangs of bandits and cultists there were many savage beasts such as Chimera and wild undead due to its proximity to the Plane of Death.
